How do I get started?
Call us at 773.327.7315. We can answer some of your questions,
and set up an initial complementary telephone or in-person
consultation. These typically last 45 minutes to an hour,
covering the intricacies of the process of egg donation or
gestational surrogacy.
What is the average wait time for gestational
surrogates?
Although at times we have gestational surrogates screened and
ready to be matched immediately, realistically, intended
parents should expect to wait a few months before being matched
with their ideal candidate.
Are gestational surrogates pre-screened?
Every gestational surrogate submits obstetrical records as
well as an assessment from her OB/GYN to determine her medical
suitability to proceed with this process. Additionally, an
independent board certified licensed clinical psychologist
performs a comprehensive psychological screening on the surrogate
and her husband or significant other (if applicable).
What is
the average wait time for an egg donor?
The length primarily depends on the characteristics sought
by intended parents. A donor may be available immediately
or there may be a short wait. We offer several programs for
choosing your donor, and we are happy to speak to you about
these options.
Are egg donors pre-screened?
Yes. Our donors have all spent at least 90 minutes of intense
interview time with us, followed by several hours of independent
psychological testing. When we bring a donor candidate to
an intended parent, she is ready to be matched and to meet
with your reproductive endocrinologist in order to undergo
medical evaluation.
How much information is available on donor
candidates?
We ask the candidates to bring photographs from birth to adulthood,
as well as photos of their children (if any). Every donor
completes a 30-plus-page questionnaire in which she shares
all pertinent health information as well as educational background,
physical characteristics and hobbies. ARR makes this information
available to prospective parents, and ARR takes the added
step of sharing personal observations about the prospective
donors.
What do we need to know about the legal implications
of egg donation and surrogacy?
With the advent of assisted reproductive technologies, a myriad
of issues have arisen regarding recognition of maternity and
paternity, as well as potential liability and long-term implications
of this process. We provide a list of attorneys with expertise
in the area. ARR is represented by the Chicago law firm of
Ballard, Desai, Bush-Joseph & Horwich, one of the leading
specialists in reproductive technology law. Partner Nidhi Desai,
who works very closely with ARR, co-authored Illinois’ 2005
Gestational Surrogacy Act, making the state one of the most
surrogacy friendly in the nation.
